In 1975, the residents of the Westlake and surrounding communities
started the Westlake Volunteer Fire Department with fewer than twenty
members, a van, and four hundred feet of assorted hose. The Westlake
Volunteer Fire Department has come a long way and is proud of the
accomplishments it has achieved over the thirty-three years. The
membership and staff of Westlake consist of eighty-nine highly
dedicated and motivated personnel. The following are just a few of our
achievements:
Currently the average Public Protection Classification for departments
across the nation is a PPC “6”. We have improved our department to a
PPC rating of a “3” which places us in the top 3% of fire departments in
the nation. The lower the PPC, the lower the Insurance premiums are on
your property. Westlake Volunteer Fire Department is a 501-C non-
profit organization and relies on donations in order to give citizens we
serve the best possible protection. Would you please take a moment to

YOUR SHIELD OF PROTECTION
|
The PPC program recognizes the efforts of communities to provide fire-protection
services for citizens and property owners. A community's investment in fire
mitigation is a proven and reliable predicator of future fire losses. So insurance
companies use PPC information to help establish fair premiums for fire
insurance — generally offering lower premiums in communities with better
protection. By offering economic benefits for communities that invest in their
firefighting services, the program provides a real incentive for improving and
maintaining public fire protection. For more information on the PPE program visit:

Fire Departments are given a Public Protection
Classification (PPC) number from 1 to 10. Class 1
represents exemplary fire protection, and Class 10
indicates that the area’s fire suppression program does not
meet minimum recognition criteria. Currently the average
PPC for fire departments across the nation is a PPC 6. In
the past few years we at Westlake Fire Department have
made improvements to improve our department to rank in
the top 3% of fire departments in the nation and have a
PPC 3.
